SSI-A MARKING ACHIEVEMENT AT VILLUPURAM DISTRICT

                Sustainable Sugarcane Initiative (SSI) is a unique method, wherein yield maximization with efficient resource use results in enhanced profitability with less input viz.,Seed,Labour,Water,Electricity and Chemical Fertilizers.
                In Villupuram District, through TN-IAMWARM Project (Varaghanadhi Sub-basin) during the period of  2011-12 demonstration was laid out in an area of 25 Ha by Oilseeds Research Station(TNAU),Tindivanam with the active co-operation of Chengalvarayan Co-operative Sugar Mill(CCSM) and Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd.,(JISL). Through this project, subsidy for drip irrigation,chip bud seedlings,water soluble fertilizers and periodical monitoring and advisories was given as free of cost.
                Mr.Poorasamy,Perangiyur Village,Thiruvannainallur Block has obtained the highest yield of 106.854 tons/acre in the Villupuram District.  On 16.11.2012, harvest day cum yield estimation was organized in his field in the august presence of Th.S.Anbarasu,Special Officer,Chengalvarayan Co-Operative Sugar Mill,Dr.N.Sathiah,Professor and Head, ORS, Tindivanam,Th.M.Elavarasan,ADA,Thiruvennainallur Block, Th.R.Pandiyan, CCO,Th.S.Thangamani, CO,CCSM,  Th.C.Dhavarajan,Agronomist(JISL). As per the test harvest and on field completion farmer has obtained 224.4 tons/ha. An average 18 milleable canes/clump,32 internodes/cane with Individual cane weight of 2.45 Kg were recorded by a large gathering of farmers during the harvest day which was conducted by Dr.S.Anbumani, , AP, (Agronomy). ORS, Tindivanam. Followed by the convincing results, a team comprising of officials from the Commissionarate of Agriculture, Chennai, Assistant Statistical Officer,Villuppuram led by the Joint Director of Agriculture , Villuppuram personally inspected the SSI plot and confirmed the yield obtained. The Assistant Director of Agriculture from Koliyanur , Thirukovilur and Vanur blocks also participated.
                The Joint Director of Agriculture,appreciated the different departments convergence towards the success.TNAU,Co-operative sugar mill,Private Sector(JISL) had contributed for the success of the farmer. Mr.Poorasamy has opined that constant support and guidance by the scientist,officers only I reached the great success and now I am very much proud to thank to the Government of Tamil Nadu for implementing the various schemes  towards the benefit of the farmers
